The final curtain

The Story: Jim Morrison crooned, "this is the end," and so it is our final vintage, or more aptly the final single barrel, of Pinot noir off of Anderson Family Vineyard. We've been buying this "first to get a Burgundy nose" fruit since 2002. Together we've fared well — well enough for our own vineyard to come to the fore.

The Cliff Notes: The color in glass is deep red. The nose carries cherry, almond extract, blond spice, savory chicken bouillon and peppermint. Cherry, cherry skin and browned butter cake dominate the mouth. It’s easy to drink, a nod to its super smooth, yet super serious, persistence. Balanced acid in the first sip, it ends its day on dried orange peel.

The Building of: Six- to eight-barrel-lot, wild-yeast fermentations in stainless steel, 100% barrel aged for 18 months. What started out as a ten-barrel cuvee got whittled down to this(previously twice-filled) single best barrel. Bottled unfined and unfiltered in March 2017.

Ageability: We absolutely recommend that you consider decanting to get it some air within its first three years. This wine should easily climb in complexity beyond a dozen years.

Vineyards: The steep and rocky South Block of Anderson Family Vineyard is dry-farmed 25 year-old Dijon 115 clone Pinot noir. As such, it is some of the oldest Dijon clone Pinot noir in Oregon.
