2024 Antoinette WV Pinot, 1.5-L magnum

A Story:Antoinette was our grandmother, feisty, as only a French-Canadian can be.
The Cliff Notes: The wine shows as translucent ruby. The nose is complex red-cherry esters with vanilla and coal overtones morphing into a Hershey’s chocolate ice-cream sunday with cherries and nuts. Completely engaging citrus, both red and orange, front a full mouth attack. Thereafter, grilled game (quail?) with a cherry-raspberry reduction drive deep into the palate. Its acid-tannin structure is beautifully balanced with fantastic weight, and the show, well, it goes on forever.
The Building of: Five best barrels selected, wild-yeast fermentations in wood and stainless steel, 100% barrel aged for 18 months: one once-filled, four neutral. Bottled in April 2026.
Ageability: We absolutely recommend that you consider decanting to get it some air within its first three years. This wine should easily climb in complexity beyond ten years.
Vineyards: Temperance Hill’s (44-year-old) dry-farmed, certified organic, later and cooler high-elevation vines, at the top of the Eola Hills AVA, deliver old vine complexity with fresh acidity. These own-rooted vines are from the Front Block, the oldest at Temperance, and their massive root systems go deep to deliver high flavor and nuance to the limited yield.

Coming from Temperance Hill, the 2024 Pinot Noir Antoinette is deeper and broader in profile, with aromas of black cherry, ripe berries, spice, and a subtle agave-like note that works beautifully here. Medium to full-bodied, it expands across the palate with broad tannins, impressive salinity, and outstanding length. Drink 2027-2047. 96 pts

The 2024 Pinot Noir Antoinette, sourced entirely from Temperance Hill vineyard, is peppery, floral, and fresh, with notes of chalk dust and sweet smoke giving way to wild strawberries and licorice tinge. It is elegant in feel, with smoothly round textures and juicy acidity guiding its ripe red berry fruit as a cascade of inner floral amasses towards the close. The finish is pleasantly chewy and long, as a tactile mineral inflection mingles with fine-grained tannins. 95 pts
